Not sure what to wear? Check out some of these great outfits for an inspiration. The turkey won’t be the only thing that looks good ; )

This look for guys is both tasteful and trendy. You  won’t appear too dressed down, but you’ll be comfy. The rust color pants are perfect for the occasion, practically screaming HARVEST, and the cable knit sweater gives a classic edge.

Here is a perfect dress for a Thanksgiving meal! Cute and comfortable! Put on a great pair of boots and you’re ready to go. You could easily accessorize this with a deep copper or rust colored pashmina or sweater to really get the classic fall look!

If you aren’t in to dresses, pair nice slacks with a blazer or jacket in a winter material, like this tweed fanfare jacket. As stated before, the look could be perfected with a fall colored accessory, in this case a gold scarf would look great!

Here’s an example of a few pashminas with fabulous autumn colors:

Holiday wear is versatile and each person’s style is unique! There are so many ways to play up the season through your wardrobe, accessories and even makeup and hair ( Wednesday will feature an easy and elegant Holiday Hair DIY!) Have fun with the festiveness!

Things We “like” Thursday!

Because Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina is a local non-profit we LOVE supporting local independently owned businesses! This Thursday we “like”, or should I say Love…..

About 2 years ago I had my first taste of Early Bird Diner and ever since … I can’t go over 2 weeks without it! My obsession started with the Chicken and Waffles ( oh so good) but then I found my true love….”The Mess“, I can’t seem to order anything else ….. I’m addicted.

The Early Bird Diner is a great place to enjoy a superb meal, homemade with high quality ingredients at incredibly fair prices! Not only will your tummy and wallet thank you, but you get to  walk away knowing that you helped your local economy and YOUR community by taking the time to support  a locally owned business !

Check them out at 1644 Savannah Highway in Charleston!

Did I mention they have great home-made ice cream too?! ((  even though they no longer serve my favorite ; lavender honey : (  sad face))

DIY Nature Inspired Holiday Center Piece

Mother nature is the ultimate interior ( or shall we say exterior?) designer! You can never go wrong when you use fresh and natural items to decorate . I have a super simple project that you can use as either a large enter piece or create several small accent pieces for your Thanksgiving holiday display.

What you need:Photo: Floral Atristry, Alison Bucholz-Ellis

  • 1 large glass vase ( 6-8in diameter) or 3-5 small glass vases (4-6in diameter) from Goodwill
  • 6-10 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 6-8 pine cones or 4-6 mini pine cones, based on what vase size you are using
  • 8-12 mini  silver glass ornaments (large vase) or 1-4 mini silver glass ornaments (small vase)
  • 4-6 pieces of gravalia leaves or a handfull of pine needles
  • Handfull of acorns
  • Metallic spray; gold and bronze

Steps:

  1. Spray paint the gravalia leaves gold, let dryfreshhomeideas.com
  2. spray paint the pine needles gold, let dry
  3. spray paint the acorns bronze, let dry
  4. break the cinnamon sticks into pieces
  5. Place the cinnamon sticks in the bottom of the vase.
  6. Once you’ve made a cinnamon floor creatively place the additional items in however you like! Be sure to pick between either the gravalia leaves or the pine needles as you don’t want too much gold. Attempt to arrange the items to create multiple layers of visual contrast. And don’t break the glass ornaments!

DIY Urban Outfitters Fingerless Gloves

I’m a huge fan of Urban Outfitters, especially their fall and winter apparel! The coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves and beanies are perfect. However, there are some things that I see  and know I could easily replicate it at home with a lot less money. With the cold weather flushing in and out I’m in the peppermint mocha with skim milk, half shot of mocha, half shot of peppermint hold the whip and chestnuts roasting on an open fire spirit ( ya I don’t think I’ve ever done the whole chestnuts thing, but it makes for good imagery)….

….which is why I loveeee the U.O Marled Fingerless Gloves . They even have an adorable suede palm patch! But even with the  palm patch I’m not going to spend $24.00 on them!

Want to  make’em at a fraction of the price?.

Things you need:

  • Polyester or acrylic gloves from Goodwill
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Optional: set of elbow patches, needle and thread

Steps:

1. Cut the fingers down to about 1.5in-2.5in based on your preference

2. Break out the lighter! If you’re younger than 18 ask your parents for permission and guidance. Sear the edges of the fresh cut fingers to ensure that the material doesn’t unravel.

To get the U.O  look:

Cut the suede elbow patches out to fit the palm portion of the gloves. Sew on. You’re finished and just in time to grab a hot coco  with those new gloves of yours!

Invest in Coats

It’s always exciting to be a part of the latest fashion trends, but trends come and go and coats are pricey!

An essential winter wear piece is a good, solid coat. Once you find a keeper it can be enjoyed for a life time. That is, if you manage to keep a slim and trim figure!

Do yourself a favor and make the investment in a high quality classic cut coat that never goes out of style!

The Peacoat

Once upon a time this double breasted wool coat was only worn by sailors, but its popularity caught on and today it is considered a classic! A solid color pea coat is an excellent addition to any wardrobe; warm, classic and versatile. Stick with the classic navy or choose a neutral color to get the most out of your jacket!

The Trench Coat

This timeless jacket has been worn by the British army since the 1850s and is still worn today! The trench coat is a great investment,  not only are you getting a high quality rain coat, but it’s insulated as well…meaning you stay warm and dry.

The Duffle or Toggle Coat

The name derives from Duffel a town in the province of Antwerp in Belgium where the fabric originated. The popularity of this coat came  post WW1  after the British Army ( those brits sure know their coats!) ordered a surplus of jackets and sold the extras cheap to the public.

The common denominator for all of the classic coats is military. And whats good enough for the military is good enough for me!

If you’re in a need of a good jacket this winter, make a wise investment. Buy a classic coat!

Stay warm,

Brit

Things We “like” Thursday!

About this time of year I’m ready for the holidays. I’m also fighting an internal battle, the one that goes….I want to start doing Christmas things, but Turkey Day hasn’t even had its time to shine. Poor Turkey Day.

WTF standing for ” Why the frown”, respectfully. hehe

BUT I do have something Thanksgiving related that we are super stoked about…….Things we “like” this Thursday is:

The Knights of Columbus Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble!

This year Charleston’s Largest 5K it’s celebrating is 34th Birthday ( sheesh your old!), which means 34 years of giving back to non profits like:

And many more! So come out this year and burn off those Turkey Day calories before you do your damage!!! check them out at www.turkeydayrun.com

After taking 2 Turkey Days off from running this race my waistline is begging for the return,
