DIY Holiday Fashion

December 14, 2011

Ports 1961 $365

Nothing says holiday like sequins! Sequined sweaters are great for the holidays when they can be donned at a party or shopping for gifts in a pair of jeans. I LOVE sequin sweaters, but only when they are ever so slightly adorned and give a vintage feel; not in that bedazzled kind of way! And I’m not the only one who adores les sequins, designers love working with sequins too and as usual their creations result in a designer price tag, ouch. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Here’s a simple and cheap get the look How-To:

Sequined Sweater How- To

Smitten Sweater $158!

What you need:

  • Sweater from Goodwill
  • Beaded and or sequined trim appliques, how many depends on where you’ll place them ( two if placing on shoulders…at least 4 if working around the collar!)
  • Needle and thread(color of sweater)

How to:

  1. If you need to, cut the appliques to the size and shape you would like.
  2. Pin them on to the area you want to sequinfy
  3. Sew around the edges
  4. Voila, done!

The possibilities are endless as to where you can wear this lovely sweater. Christmas party at the office? Over a great cocktail dress for a Hanukkah party? Or grabbing Starbucks in the midst of your shopping rut?!

Tis the season for Holiday parties!

December 13, 2011

Did you receive a coveted invite to a winter soiree? Or are you headed out to a small holiday gathering? One big decision to make is… what to wear?!

The holiday season is in full force which equates to lots and lots of celebrating! And a girl’s gotta look her best at any and all occasions! Not sure what to wear, check out some great party outfit ideas:

Lavish Evening Party

This type of affair screams evening gown! Colors like gold and silver are not only great to re-wear, but also very holidayish. If you’d prefer blue, red or green hues, I’d suggest to stick with material of a deeper color  which makes the outfit more versatile. But as usual, neutrals are golden!

With Friends

For a gathering of friends think casual elegance; Chic! Cocktail dresses are staple, but why not mix it up! Perhaps a sequined blouse with a black blazer or a high neck mini dress with sequined tights . OR if all else fails, show up in an awesome tacky Christmas sweater

; )

Office Party

The always obliged to attend Office Party! Dressing for this can be tricky, especially if it isn’t a lavish affair. The best route to take is classic! A dress with black tights always works. Want to look a little more creative? Instead of the little black dress opt for a lighter shade, champagne or ivory, and pair with black tights. A new spin on a classic look!

Check back on Wednesday for an easy holiday wear DIY for any occasion!

DIY Mason Jar Snow Globe

December 7, 2011

A timeless holiday decor piece is the magical, ever enchanting snow globe! I have always been fascinated with their beauty and can’t but help to admire each and every snow globe scene. A perfect world in the palm of your hand!

This DIY was inspired by the Anthropologie Holiday Edition Magazine I received in the mail and as usual love everything in it! I was instantly drawn to the delicate new take on the classic Snow Globe; the perfect Holiday decor piece and tag along gift for anyone you adore!

What you need:

  • Mason jar(s) from Goodwill
  • Super glue or hot glue gun
  • Mini decorative Christmas tree from Crafts store
  • Faux snow from Crafts store
  • Glitter
  • Add ons: Multiple sizes of mini xmas tress, pine cones, other holiday figurines.

How to:

  • Take the top off the snow globe. The top will act as the “ground” for your scene.
  • Glue down the figurines or trees.
  • Glue the faux snow around the scene. Let scene dry
  • Put some glitter in the bottom on the mason jar
  • Fill with water leaving about an inch from the top. This is dependent upon how full your scene is!
  • Glue around the inside of the lid, quickly screw on lid with scene submerged in water
  • Admire!!!!!

This is a great project to do with kids! And don’t limit it to just one globe, create an entire winter wonderland using differing sizes of jars! Perfect!

Enjoy,

Brit
