Hot Valentine’s Day Date?

January 30, 2012

It’s never to early to start planning out your attire for a hot date! And with Valentine’s Day, the hot date of the year, right around the corner, NOW is the time to start looking!

I’ve found some awesome outfits which could be worn out with your man, out with your girls or at home having vin chaud with your cats..; )

Outfit #1: Valentine’s Day Girl’s Night

Who say’s you can only have a great time on the most commercialised Holiday known to man-kind with a guy?

Wrong, you can have a great night out with the girls! And for that night, I suggest a sweet and flirty dress, like this one from modcloth.com. Imagine yourself  channelling the pin-up girls of the 50′s in this adorable dress! Pair with a killer pair of open toe pumps and red nails= unstoppable!

Outfit #2 Date night with the Beau

I am so in love with this dress from asos.com! What’s so perfect about it is A. It’s super sexy, without letting it all out and B. its versatile so it can be dressed up ( I’m thinking black tights and patent leather pumps) or dressed down ( tightless and black flats) depending on where you’re being taken out ; )

Outfit #3: Cozy with the Cats

All alone? Don’t fret, this is what you need: 1. Funny movie from redbox 2. Ice Cream 3. Super comfy pj’s….like these from target.com and they have cute kittens all over ‘em, awwww

What does your Valentine’s Day look like?

Got an old sweater? How to resuse it….

January 25, 2012

Continuing from Monday’s post on slimming tricks, one trick that I love is the over-sized boyfriend sweater or cardigan. Not only are they incredibly comfy, but if you wear it right; paired with leggings or fitted dark denim, it can instantly free you from some pounds!

But what do you do when that beloved sweater starts getting  old, worn and discolored? Heavens forbid you trash it, you’re emotionally attached to this perfect, snuggly, blanket known as the boyfriend sweater. So, instead of trashing you………

Make an awesome Headband (aka Ear Warmers) inspired by the

ASOS Bow headband Turban

What you need:

  • Old sweater or cardigan
  • Scissors
  • Needle and Thread

How to:

  1. Cut off one of the arms
  2. Measure your head . Diameter: from the base of your neck, over your ears and around
  3. Based on the measurement, cut the sweater arm down to scale. Remember, the fabric stretches slightly so scale down by one-two inches.
  4. Sew the two ends of the re-sized sweater arm together
  5. Cut off the other sweater arm. From this segment cut a piece off ..width wise.. of about 3 inches.
  6. Designate the front of the headband. Wrap the small 3 in wide piece around it tightly so that the section becomes narrow and gives the appearance of a bow.
  7. Sew the piece.

Voila; adorable, fashionable and functional!

Stay toasty not tacky,

The Slim Down

January 23, 2012

Did you make a resolution to slim down in 2012 and have gotten off the beaten path since January 1st? Or maybe you have a big event coming up; Valentine’s Day date, formals, even PROM, and your goal is to accentuate those GREAT areas and down play those….not so great areas?

There are plenty tricks of the trade when it comes to Fashion, especially when you want to appear slim….even when you have a burger baby! The classic slim down trick is Black. It also happens to be my favorite color, but there are other ways to appease the eye without looking like a gothic princess ( not hatin’).

I read an article recently on Yahoo which disclosed some crafty approaches to faking thin until you make it thin; http://shine.yahoo.com/the-thread/fake-it-til-you-make-it–5-easy–slimming-wardrobe-pieces-to-wear-now.html.

My favorite thin techniques are: 1. Black 2. Drape Neck Cardigan 3. Long Hair 4. Good posture 5. Spray tan

Number 3 may seem crazy, but it’s so true. When your hair is long it elongates your face and upper body ( depending on the length) as well as provides slight coverage!

What are you favorite ways to fake thin?!

Fake it till ya make it,

Things We “Like” Thursday

January 12, 2012

This year everyone should resolve to support locally owned businesses! And when it comes to finding a top-notch local owned place to grub out there’s a surplus in Charleston and the surrounding areas, and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

This Thursday we LOVE an eclectic and delicious place known as…

” A laid back pub and sandwich shop” in the upper king street neighborhood, but don’t let it fool you because the Tattooed Moose can please even the most refined taste buds, oh and did I mention they have DUCK FAT FRIES. Yes…..fries fried in duck fat, I can’t even begin to express the deliciousness!

Come check them out at 1137 Morrison Drive , and be sure to join them for a viewing of their TV debut on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” taking place on January 16th at 10pm! http://tattooedmoose.com/?p=258

Mmmm, I can taste those fries and “leftovers” sammy,

Fashion Faux Pas Revamp: The Pleather Jacket

January 11, 2012

I’ve been racking my brain thinking of a fashion faux pas and how to reinvent it into something worthwhile. There are plenty to choose from, but reinventing….that’s the tough part! Hmmm….Here’s my thought process:

1. Crocs……

The worst looking shoes ( are they even shoes?!) ever invented! However,  they are so god awful I legit can not think of any way to save them. So let’s just let them rest in peace.

2. Ugg(ly) Classic Boots…...

Well, they could make good ear muffs, but…..ugh no. There’s a special place for Uggs and that’s not paired with your favorite soffee shorts.

Then I finally I remembered……

Stop smiling Delia

The Pleather Jacket

Leather cuffs are in! And working with pleather is much easier to mold, shape and cut!

Check out this easy DIY Leather Bow Cuff Bracelet I found from Oh the Lovely Things blog:

What you  need :
- A piece of leather, cut from your old Pleather jacket. Don’t have one…try Goodwill

  • Cut approx. 22cm x 10cm (approx. 8.7″ x 4″)

- Scissors
- Leather glue or super glue
- Thread
- A snap button

How to:

1. Cut an oval piece of leather, approx. 22cm x 10cm (approx. 8.7″ x 4″). You can make it longer or smaller, depending on the size of your wrist.

Form a bow and wrap thread around!

2. Form a bow.

3. Secure the bow by wrapping thread around it and knot.

4. Cut a small rectangle of leather, approx. 4cm x 1cm / 1.6″ x 0.4″

5. Glue the small band of leather over the thread.

6. Sew the snap button, one part of the button at one end of the leather, and the other at the other side.

VOILA, Recycled and revamped  fashion faux pas that adds a bit of  edge to any look!
