Quick and Easy Refurbishing Idea!

June 6, 2012

While searching for a summer savings project have you ever seen a piece of furniture at Goodwill, a yard sale or even tossed on the side of the road that makes you think to yourself, ” This is great, but I’m not sure if it could ever look new again..”?

Well, my friend Rachel stumbled upon this same situation with a cabinet she spotted on the side of the road! And guess what , she found a quick and easy way to breathe new life in to it!

Check it out!

An astonishing transformation from the drab, beaten-up wooden chest of drawers, huh! If purchased new it’d be at least $200 dollars, what a great summer savings project!

Rachel’s Refurbishing Project required:

  • Old chest of drawers
  • Sandpaper
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • New knobs

And the kicker, the crafty trick, which provided the backbone to the entire transformation…..

Textured Wallpaper!

Ingenious, huh?! The wallpaper provides texture, depth and pattern, all qualities which are subtle, yet result in an entire new look for the piece!

How she did it:

  1. Rachel removed the cabinet handles
  2. She then sanded down the entire piece
  3. Measurements for the face of the cabinets were taken. The textured wall paper was then cut out to scale and glued to the face of the cabinets
  4. The entire piece, including the new cabinet faces, was painted
  5. New knob were screwed in

Voila, proof that you can turn [almost] anything from drab to fab with a little elbow grease and creativity!

Thanks for sharing with us Rachel!

Do you have any crafty summer savings project, we’d love to share!
