A thrifted piece of furniture is like a cat. It has many many lives. The two busted up bookshelves shown below have lived at least as many lives as the most curious cats! The pair was purchased at a thrift store (the small NC town I lived in then didn’t have a Goodwill – can you believe that!?!) over twelve years ago! They were originally a mahogany color and housed our CD player, some books and framed photos in our apartment living room. They traveled with us to a few more apartments until Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Homemade Holidays Part 2
December 3, 2012
I’m so excited to reveal the first of my homemade holiday gifts! As I mentioned in an earlier post, my persoal goal is to make 25% of my Christmas gifts this year in an effort to give gifts that cost less and mean more. And for this first gift, I probably could have purchased it for cheaper than I made it, but it probably wouldn’t have lasted as long and wouldn’t have been as personalized.
So… last week I asked, “What do you get when you cross a college frame (found at Goodwill) with a cigar box (donated by my step-Dad)?” And, the answer is… Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: “Pillow Case” Girl’s Dress

Weekend Project Giveaway: DIY Kids Chalkboard Table
July 16, 2012
While it is always fun to find a diamond in the rough while shopping at Goodwill, I prefer to make diamonds out of the rough things I find! A couple months back, I found a set of end tables at the Goodwill on Clements Ferry. They were pretty scratched up, but still very sturdy and well made – and only $24.99 for the set! With the pay and take discount, I received 25% off and spent just over $9 each! What a bargain! And we love the table so much we want to share it with one of you (read to the bottom for details)! June 20, 2012
Oh Ella… you’re songs are so beautiful, and at one time, summer may have meant that the living was easy (ahh… pause to enjoy the nostalgia…) But for us parents, summer means finding activities to keep the kids entertained! Today marks the first day of summer and I don’t know about yours, but my kids are READY TO PLAY!
I try to find activities for them that encourages them to use their imagination, their creativity or to be outside. While our house is filled with colorful toys of all shapes and sizes, they seem to want to play more with everyday household items! Isn’t that always the Read the rest of this entry ?
