Weekend DIY Project: Perfect Your Inner Perfectionist

April 30, 2013

a girls 2I was only half kidding a few posts back when I said that Pinterest makes me feel like a failure. I have a healthy love/hate relationship with Pinterest. I love love love the creativity and inspiration I find with every search. Yet, I sometimes feel like I’m not worthy to hold a candle to the rest of the Pinterexperts. I think I’m a crafty person and I know I’m a thrifty person, but there are times when I doubt my ability. The perfectionist in me shouts out – it needs to be better! Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Good Ole Mason Jar

April 22, 2013

mason jarAhh… the mason jar. A staple of the South. There is never a shortage of this jar at Goodwill and it’s not just for the Redneck’s wine or Aunt May’s jelly. The mason jar can be used in a variety of ways! I make it a point to grab one when I visit Goodwill… seriously, you can’t have too many… and I’m a minimalist! Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Pray for No Rain

April 15, 2013

fabric dresserI was planning on redecorating my girls’ bedroom dresser this past weekend, but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Since she decided to water my strawberries instead of giving me appropriate weather to decorate outside, my dresser reveal post will have to wait until next week. Which I guess is okay, because it gave me a chance to do a little more researching on DIY dressers and totally changed my idea. I am amazed at how creative some people are! Weekend DIY Project: It’s Okay To Fail

April 1, 2013

DIY FailWhenever I casually talk to someone about social media and how it affects my life, I sum it up by saying, “Facebook makes me feel like a success and Pinterest makes me feel like a failure.”

Now, I have had my fair share of “successes” with my DIY projects, but I have had ten times as many “fails”. If any of you caught that in my last post, I started out with two bookshelves and then showed the “after photo” with just one… uh… there’s a reason for that… shelf #2 didn’t make it… well, not yet at least… Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Get Lucky

February 25, 2013

st patricks dayI’m sure Brit will go over the highs and lows of Oscar fashion with you tomorrow, so I’ll move onto utilizing Goodwill for the next holiday which is one of my favorites –  St. Patrick’s Day! Since my Irish eyes are always smiling, I especially like it when everone breaks out their Irish heritage, dons green apparel and noshes on corned beef and cabbage while Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Love Decor

February 4, 2013

DIY Heart FrameLOVE is in the air! Okay, well, physically it’s on the bookshelf, but these little Valentine’s Day frames definitely make my heart smile! And they were oh-so-simple to make (and free using supplies I already had – Bonus!)!

Almost everytime I go shopping at Goodwill, I grab a frame (or two) to add to my stash, and those purchases came in handy with this project! I was inspired to add a some Valentine’s Day cheer to my home on a recent trip to Target – their Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Handmade Holidays Part 4

December 17, 2012

candy cane striped glassesMy personal goal of creating 25% of my Christmas gifts this year is very difficult. Commercialism sometimes gets the best of me when I’m out and about. There are just so many cute things to buy! But my personal goal keeps me focused and is beginning to train my brain to look at more items in the big box stores with my “Goodwill Eyes”… My “How could I make that? Eyes”… It’s getting kind of fun – I love a good challenge!

I was perusing the aisles at World Market (incredible stuff, great inspiration, by the way) the Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Homemade Holidays Part 3

December 10, 2012

2yr old treeI have to admit, in the beginning of the month, I was NOT looking forward to the holidays. I had been so busy with so many other things (including my twin girls’ third birthday!) that it was difficult for me to get into the holiday spirit. Then we decorated. Isn’t it amazing what a little lights and laughter can do to put you in the mood? We let the girls decorate the tree (see photo to the left) and are planning on leaving it exactly the way it is. In their eyes, it is perfect… and mine too.

But I am having fun creating some holiday gifts Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Homemade Holidays Part 2

December 3, 2012

college frame and cigar boxI’m so excited to reveal the first of my homemade holiday gifts! As I mentioned in an earlier post, my persoal goal is to make 25% of my Christmas gifts this year in an effort to give gifts that cost less and mean more. And for this first gift, I probably could have purchased it for cheaper than I made it, but it probably wouldn’t have lasted as long and wouldn’t have been as personalized.

So… last week I asked, “What do you get when you cross a college frame (found at Goodwill) with a cigar box (donated by my step-Dad)?” And, the answer is… Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Homemade Holidays

November 26, 2012

I scored again at Goodwill today! There are not many times that I go and don’t find ANYTHING, but I love it when I find things SUPER cheap! Today, I picked up all that you see to the right, but my favorite would have to be the four kids puzzles for just $3.93 (um… that’s under $1 per puzzle!). They are nicely made wooden puzzles in almost new condition. My girls are loving puzzles these days and their birthdays are right around the corner!

I was also really happy to find the Sudoku game (50% off = $1.97). While I really enjoy the game, I grabbed it for those little wooden tiles - perfect craft material!!! I have a few ideas on how to use them to create holiday gifts! I’ve been working on some handmade gifts Read the rest of this entry ?
