Weekend DIY Project: Thank Your Teacher

May 13, 2013

teacher-gift3This is the first year that my girls attended “school”. It was a pre-school program for 2-year olds but I was amazed at how much they learned and grew during this past year. Not only socially, but academically, as well. While I try to teach them new things everyday, I am NOT a teacher. I have no idea what is age-appropriate material and sometimes lack the patience necessary to follow through with a lesson. Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: From the Heart

May 6, 2013

Level2_Childhood_Safety_Mom_Daughter_Holding_Hands

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and while I always rack my brain to come up with something for Mom, she always tells me the same thing, “I just want your love.” Now that I am a mom, I understand more what she means by that. While bling is nice, I would much rather have something that was made from the heart. Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Perfect Your Inner Perfectionist

April 30, 2013

a girls 2I was only half kidding a few posts back when I said that Pinterest makes me feel like a failure. I have a healthy love/hate relationship with Pinterest. I love love love the creativity and inspiration I find with every search. Yet, I sometimes feel like I’m not worthy to hold a candle to the rest of the Pinterexperts. I think I’m a crafty person and I know I’m a thrifty person, but there are times when I doubt my ability. The perfectionist in me shouts out – it needs to be better! Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Good Ole Mason Jar

April 22, 2013

mason jarAhh… the mason jar. A staple of the South. There is never a shortage of this jar at Goodwill and it’s not just for the Redneck’s wine or Aunt May’s jelly. The mason jar can be used in a variety of ways! I make it a point to grab one when I visit Goodwill… seriously, you can’t have too many… and I’m a minimalist! Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Pray for No Rain

April 15, 2013

fabric dresserI was planning on redecorating my girls’ bedroom dresser this past weekend, but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Since she decided to water my strawberries instead of giving me appropriate weather to decorate outside, my dresser reveal post will have to wait until next week. Which I guess is okay, because it gave me a chance to do a little more researching on DIY dressers and totally changed my idea. I am amazed at how creative some people are! Weekend DIY Project: Think Outside The Planter

April 8, 2013

windowsFinally! It feels like SPRING! Once the weather gets nice like this, my family like to spend most of our time outside, soaking up the sun and the fresh air. This is when I start my planting and my “outdoor decorating”. Since I try to repurpose anything and everything, my goal is to not purchase any new pots this year and instead, think “outside the container”. Not only will it save money, but The Micro Gardner points our 10 other benefits to using repurposed planters here. Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: It’s Okay To Fail

April 1, 2013

DIY FailWhenever I casually talk to someone about social media and how it affects my life, I sum it up by saying, “Facebook makes me feel like a success and Pinterest makes me feel like a failure.”

Now, I have had my fair share of “successes” with my DIY projects, but I have had ten times as many “fails”. If any of you caught that in my last post, I started out with two bookshelves and then showed the “after photo” with just one… uh… there’s a reason for that… shelf #2 didn’t make it… well, not yet at least… Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Get Organized!

March 18, 2013

entrywaySince the great “accident“, we have gotten new carpet in all of the bedrooms, new hardwood floors in the living room and hallway and a new found respect for “zen-living”. Once we pulled all of our “stuff” out of the house, we realized how much “stuff” we actually have and are really taking a good look at what we want in our life and what we can let go. It’s amazing how much space you can find in your house once you let some things go. It’s actually quite freeing!

Here are a few simple ways to reduce the clutter: Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Get Lucky

February 25, 2013

st patricks dayI’m sure Brit will go over the highs and lows of Oscar fashion with you tomorrow, so I’ll move onto utilizing Goodwill for the next holiday which is one of my favorites –  St. Patrick’s Day! Since my Irish eyes are always smiling, I especially like it when everone breaks out their Irish heritage, dons green apparel and noshes on corned beef and cabbage while Read the rest of this entry ?

Weekend DIY Project: Blessings in Disguise

February 18, 2013

floodSo, a couple of weeks ago, a pipe burst in our attic. Water gushed out for about 12 minutes until we were able to shut it off. The ceiling caved in over our girls room and thankfully, no one was hurt. But their room was significantly damaged, as well as some damage to the hallway. That night, we called a disaster team in, checked into a hotel room and have been dealing with the repairs ever since.

Unfortunately, this has left me with NO time to complete any of my weekend projects… Fortunately (there is always a silver lining!), we now have new carpet in all the bedrooms, and hardwood in the Read the rest of this entry ?
