DIY Holiday Fashion

December 14, 2011

Ports 1961 $365

Nothing says holiday like sequins! Sequined sweaters are great for the holidays when they can be donned at a party or shopping for gifts in a pair of jeans. I LOVE sequin sweaters, but only when they are ever so slightly adorned and give a vintage feel; not in that bedazzled kind of way! And I’m not the only one who adores les sequins, designers love working with sequins too and as usual their creations result in a designer price tag, ouch. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Here’s a simple and cheap get the look How-To:

Sequined Sweater How- To

Smitten Sweater $158!

What you need:

  • Sweater from Goodwill
  • Beaded and or sequined trim appliques, how many depends on where you’ll place them ( two if placing on shoulders…at least 4 if working around the collar!)
  • Needle and thread(color of sweater)

How to:

  1. If you need to, cut the appliques to the size and shape you would like.
  2. Pin them on to the area you want to sequinfy
  3. Sew around the edges
  4. Voila, done!

The possibilities are endless as to where you can wear this lovely sweater. Christmas party at the office? Over a great cocktail dress for a Hanukkah party? Or grabbing Starbucks in the midst of your shopping rut?!

Tis the season for Holiday parties!

December 13, 2011

Did you receive a coveted invite to a winter soiree? Or are you headed out to a small holiday gathering? One big decision to make is… what to wear?!

The holiday season is in full force which equates to lots and lots of celebrating! And a girl’s gotta look her best at any and all occasions! Not sure what to wear, check out some great party outfit ideas:

Lavish Evening Party

This type of affair screams evening gown! Colors like gold and silver are not only great to re-wear, but also very holidayish. If you’d prefer blue, red or green hues, I’d suggest to stick with material of a deeper color  which makes the outfit more versatile. But as usual, neutrals are golden!

With Friends

For a gathering of friends think casual elegance; Chic! Cocktail dresses are staple, but why not mix it up! Perhaps a sequined blouse with a black blazer or a high neck mini dress with sequined tights . OR if all else fails, show up in an awesome tacky Christmas sweater

; )

Office Party

The always obliged to attend Office Party! Dressing for this can be tricky, especially if it isn’t a lavish affair. The best route to take is classic! A dress with black tights always works. Want to look a little more creative? Instead of the little black dress opt for a lighter shade, champagne or ivory, and pair with black tights. A new spin on a classic look!

Check back on Wednesday for an easy holiday wear DIY for any occasion!

November 21, 2011

Plans to  visit your family for Thanksgiving? Want to outshine that always-so-awesome cousin of yours? Or are you going home with the beau to meet the rents and need to make a great first impression? Not sure what to wear? Check out some of these great outfits for an inspiration. The turkey won’t be the only thing that looks good ; )

This look for guys is both tasteful and trendy. You  won’t appear too dressed down, but you’ll be comfy. The rust color pants are perfect for the occasion, practically screaming HARVEST, and the cable knit sweater gives a classic edge.

Here is a perfect dress for a Thanksgiving meal! Cute and comfortable! Put on a great pair of boots and you’re ready to go. You could easily accessorize this with a deep copper or rust colored pashmina or sweater to really get the classic fall look!

If you aren’t in to dresses, pair nice slacks with a blazer or jacket in a winter material, like this tweed fanfare jacket. As stated before, the look could be perfected with a fall colored accessory, in this case a gold scarf would look great!

Here’s an example of a few pashminas with fabulous autumn colors:

Holiday wear is versatile and each person’s style is unique! There are so many ways to play up the season through your wardrobe, accessories and even makeup and hair ( Wednesday will feature an easy and elegant Holiday Hair DIY!) Have fun with the festiveness!
