Holiday Outfits

December 11, 2012

zara holiday look 2Hanukkah is already upon us, Christmas is up next, and then New Year’s. The holidays= celebrations=what to wear?

Planning what to wear for an upcoming Holiday soiree can be intimidating-how to look festive without wearing snowflake earrings and a light up Christmas tree sweater ( unless it’s a tacky Christmas party- then by all means, go for it)

A lot of what you should wear can be determined by the invitation; 4 0′clock= cocktail, 6 o’clock= formal etc.  A safe way to look festive for any event is  by adding a little sparkle or incorporating a holiday color ( red and green for Christmas, Gold any holiday, Blue for Hanukkah..you get it) Read the rest of this entry ?

Tis the season for Holiday parties!

December 13, 2011

Did you receive a coveted invite to a winter soiree? Or are you headed out to a small holiday gathering? One big decision to make is… what to wear?!

The holiday season is in full force which equates to lots and lots of celebrating! And a girl’s gotta look her best at any and all occasions! Not sure what to wear, check out some great party outfit ideas:

Lavish Evening Party

This type of affair screams evening gown! Colors like gold and silver are not only great to re-wear, but also very holidayish. If you’d prefer blue, red or green hues, I’d suggest to stick with material of a deeper color  which makes the outfit more versatile. But as usual, neutrals are golden!

With Friends

For a gathering of friends think casual elegance; Chic! Cocktail dresses are staple, but why not mix it up! Perhaps a sequined blouse with a black blazer or a high neck mini dress with sequined tights . OR if all else fails, show up in an awesome tacky Christmas sweater

; )

Office Party

The always obliged to attend Office Party! Dressing for this can be tricky, especially if it isn’t a lavish affair. The best route to take is classic! A dress with black tights always works. Want to look a little more creative? Instead of the little black dress opt for a lighter shade, champagne or ivory, and pair with black tights. A new spin on a classic look!

Check back on Wednesday for an easy holiday wear DIY for any occasion!

What to wear?: Thanksgiving Style

November 21, 2011

Plans to  visit your family for Thanksgiving? Want to outshine that always-so-awesome cousin of yours? Or are you going home with the beau to meet the rents and need to make a great first impression? Not sure what to wear? Check out some of these great outfits for an inspiration. The turkey won’t be the only thing that looks good ; )

This look for guys is both tasteful and trendy. You  won’t appear too dressed down, but you’ll be comfy. The rust color pants are perfect for the occasion, practically screaming HARVEST, and the cable knit sweater gives a classic edge.

Here is a perfect dress for a Thanksgiving meal! Cute and comfortable! Put on a great pair of boots and you’re ready to go. You could easily accessorize this with a deep copper or rust colored pashmina or sweater to really get the classic fall look!

If you aren’t in to dresses, pair nice slacks with a blazer or jacket in a winter material, like this tweed fanfare jacket. As stated before, the look could be perfected with a fall colored accessory, in this case a gold scarf would look great!

Here’s an example of a few pashminas with fabulous autumn colors:

Holiday wear is versatile and each person’s style is unique! There are so many ways to play up the season through your wardrobe, accessories and even makeup and hair ( Wednesday will feature an easy and elegant Holiday Hair DIY!) Have fun with the festiveness!

Tights as accessories? yup.DIY Sequined Tights!

November 2, 2011

Accessories, plural of accessory;

  1. A thing that can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile, or attractive.
  2. A small article or item of clothing that is carried or worn to complement a garmet or outfit.

I Love Accessories. Adding an accessory or accessories to any outfit can immediately ( and a lot of the time cost efficiently) transform it, for the better!

Another thing I love are sequins! Sequins add dazzle ( and a slight eccentric demeanor; a little eccentricness never hurt anyone…think Little Edie, Grey Gardens…looooove her)!

But sequins are tricky, you must wear them appropriately. Sequins on jeans…no. Sequins on vintage sweaters, adorned on vintage purses, or tights….YES!

The holidays, Christmas and News Year’s specifically, are the perfect time to slip into something shimmery!

Perfect Holiday Outfit Hands Down= Little Black dress with sequined tights

Aren’t they Beautiful!?!  Sequined tights were walking up and down both Doo.Ri and Zac Posen runways.

Gimme, gimme you say?

Make them yourself!

What you need:

  • Tights or knee highs from Goodwill
  • Sequins in differing shapes, sizes and colors
  • fabric glue
  • You could spice this up and sew on shimmery beads as well!

How to:

  • Stuff the tights with paper or something that will prevent the glue from seeping through and gluing the tights together!
  • Pick out the sequins and glue!
  • Let dry…do NOT wash!
  • Pair with the perfect little black dress and heels!

Ta da! Pretty, Pretty!
