DIY Framed Hair Clip Holder

May 18, 2012

Continuing with the frame theme this week (I may or may not be a little obsessed with them), I wanted to share with you a project I just completed using… yup! You guessed it! A frame!

My girls took FOREVER to grow hair, so I am making up for lost hair time with clips, bands, barrettes and more! The only problem is keeping them organized and in a convenient location. So last week the idea came to me. I grabbed a frame I found at Goodwill (for less than $3!), a can of spray paint, some ribbon and Voilá!

This little beauty took no time to make… once it was painted. For some reason, this frame soaked up the paint and required a few coats. Read the rest of this entry ?

DIY Ruffle Necklace

September 21, 2011

This Autumn will be synonymous with ruffles and pleats! You’ll find a plethora of pants, shirts, skirts and blouses all adorned with the likes. If your not a “frilly” person, to say the least, you can still pull off this trend; accessorize with…..

The Ruffle Necklace!

Things you will need:

  1. 3 in. wide fabric, length depends on preference  (more length more ruffles)
  2. 20 gauge wire
  3. Jump rings and clasp
  4. Buttons, ribbon or brooches to decorate from Goodwill
  5. Needle and thread

Step one: First you need to cut a strip of fabric approx. 3″ wide, the length will vary depending on the weight and how “full” you want your ruffle to be.

Step two. Iron your strip in half with the right side facing out.

Step three. sew a 1/4″ straight stitch along the folded end of your fabric.

Step four. Make sure you sew along the folded side, you are creating a sleeve for the wire.

Step five. Cut a piece of wire approx. 12″ in length. Make a wire wrapped loop with one end of the wire.

Step six. after you have wire wrapped one end of your wire, begin feeding the other end into the sleeve of the strip of fabric you have created.

Step seven. continue until you have reached amount of ruffles you want.

Step eight. wire wrap the second end of the wire.

Step nine: add any chain, beads or ribbon that you want for the closure

Step ten: adorn your ruffle necklace with buttons, ribbon or brooches!

Spice it up: Use tulle for instant elegance!

  • If you want your ruffle necklace full like in the picture do multiple layers of ruffles with a width of about 5 inches and layering is key!

DIY: Ann Taylor Loft Inspired Ribbon Necklace

August 10, 2011

Since entering the wonderful world of the workforce I’ve developed a passionate love for all things Ann Taylor Loft. Like my love of home accessories, I feel quite the same about outfit accessories and nothing says fun and professional like a good ole Ann Taylor Loft Ribbon Necklace.

I never buy anything from Ann Taylor Loft, or anywhere really, at full price. They are continuously having great sales and I am always able to easily find something I like. However, I have noticed that the jewelry rarely goes on sale or low enough to a price that I am willing to pay for it; it’s Ann Taylor Loft not David Yurman.

I was “stoked” to say the least when I found this tutorial on how to MAKE your OWN Ann Taylor Loft Inspired Ribbon Necklace and, as usual, at a price you can’t beat.Check out below for instructions:and here is the perfect song to get your crafty onWe used to wait; Arcade fire

Things you will need:

1. Wide chain: Craft store

2. Ribbon color of your choice

3. Vintage pins or brooches from Goodwill

4. 2 Jump Rings: Craft store

5. 1 clasp; Craft store

6. Pliers

Step one: Run your ribbon through the chains. You can alternate every other chain link or every couple. Do it however you like!

Step two: Use pliers to open up the jump rings. Hook a jump ring on each side of the necklace; tie ribbon to the jump ring.

Step three: close one jump ring using the pliers. Attach clasp to other jump ring using pliers.

Step four: Pin your brooches on and add a cute ribbon bow.

Spice it up: Use lace and pearls to weave through the thick chain!
