DIY Fabric Flowers for Spring Decorating!

April 24, 2013

fabric flowersThe other day I told you about the beautiful paper flowers I saw at the stationery shop across the street from me. Paper flowers are too cute and a great way to add a little spring ( with no possibility of killing them) to your home, but did you know that you can also make faux flowers from fabric? And I’m not referring to the plastic and fabric ones that remind me of a funeral home. If you love fabric rosettes, you’ll love decorating with these!

My fabulous friend Melissa, made a beautiful burlap floral arrangement for her sister this past holiday season, and she was kind enough to offer  some tips Read the rest of this entry ?

Fall 2011 Interior Design

October 3, 2011

The world of fashion is always changing, including interior design. This fall be on the look out for some consistent as well as new runway inspired looks for your pad!

1. Minimalist. The less the best. Minimalist designs are soft, natural, cutting edge and focus on limited clutter. Try classic furniture pieces that are low to the ground. Limit yourself to one neutral color scheme and one highlight color.

2. Plush fabrics, faux furs and animal print accents. This trend is straight off the runway. Animal prints and furs have been seen everywhere and  now includes your living space. The space doesn’t have to be covered in print, that is exactly the opposite of the look. Utilize an accent piece that incorporates a plush fabric, faux fur or an animal print to enhance the look of your space.

3. Earth tones highlighted with flashy neon colors.   Remember those yellow pants you rocked last week with that black top and black flats? This is the same concept, but space is the medium! Try yellow or gold   accent pieces surrounded by earth tones like berry and sea green.

With each season you have the opportunity to update your wardrobe and the same goes for your space. Welcome fall with a renewed and refreshed sense of being, you don’t have to completely redo a room…simply move around the furniture!

Enjoy

D.I.Y Rorschach Ink blot Shirt

September 28, 2011

Pretty cool designs huh? These images are called Rorschach Ink blots used to detect underlying thought disorders; yes I know, the validity and reliability are low….very low but that does not deter from the beauty  in the images. They would look great on a t-shirt or sweat shirt. Agree?

DIY Rorschach Ink Blot Shirt

Things you will need

  • Marker refill ink; in whatever colors you desire. I suggest only 2 colors in particular 2 contrasting colors
  • medicine dropper
  • news paper
  • blow dryer
  • Shirt or sweatshirt from Goodwill

What to do:

1. You will not get perfectly symmetrical images because you medium is not paper, its fabric so sketch out an ink blot on paper that you would like to emulate on the fabric.

2. Once you have decided on your design fully line the shirt or sweatshirt with newspaper, you do NOT want the ink to bleed through. Also, be in an outside area…this could get messy.

3. Use the medicine dropper to drop the ink onto the fabric, hold about 2 feet above. Make it as symmetrical as possible using your design as a guide.

4. For each application of ink use the blow dryer to heat-set the stains.

5. When your done let dry. Voila a shirt Dr. Hermann Rorschach would be proud to wear!
